Portable SFX privacy policy
Updated October 6, 2026. Developer: Nathan Fennel. This policy retains the local audio practices of earlier installed versions and describes iCloud sound continuation prepared for an update. That feature is still being provisioned and tested; cross-device transfer has not yet been verified and may not be available in your installed app.
Projects and audio
Portable SFX processes sound projects, tracks, clips, and effects on your device. Project data and preferences are saved locally. Audio files you choose to import are read for the project. The app does not upload projects or audio to a developer-operated service.
Optional recording
Microphone recording starts when you choose Record and allow microphone access through the operating system. Captured audio is saved locally with your project files. Opening a project does not record audio. The app does not upload recordings to a developer-operated service.
Prepared iCloud sound continuation
The prepared update stores complete editable sound and project revisions in your app's iCloud Drive documents, using Apple's CloudDocuments service. This is not a CloudKit database or a developer-operated audio server. Revisions contain project and sound names and notes, tracks, clip timing and levels, effects and automation, and the actual imported or recorded audio files. They also contain identifiers, dates, and revision information needed to continue editing on another device. The developer does not receive these private iCloud Drive files.
Sync sounds with iCloud Drive is on by default in the prepared update. Projects save automatically on your device; while sync is enabled and the app is active, saved sounds and projects can be copied to the same iCloud account's app storage. Edits that the app saves automatically may sync while an editor remains open. You can turn sync off on that device in Studio settings, under iCloud. This keeps local work and does not remove files already copied to iCloud. Apple's iCloud account, storage, network, and transfer availability govern synchronization. The settings show whether Drive is unavailable, audio is uploading or waiting, or an error occurred; another device may need time to download the audio before continuing.
Parallel edits keep separate conflict copies rather than choosing a winner by device clocks. Incomplete or unavailable audio is not adopted as a replacement for a local sound. If the app detects a different iCloud account from the one it used before, it pauses until you choose Use the current iCloud account in Studio settings. That choice can copy your current local sounds and projects into the new account. It keeps local work and leaves the previous account's cloud files alone.
Cloud revisions retain older project data and audio. Deleting a sound or project on one device does not delete its saved cloud revisions or copies on other devices, and another device or a new installation can restore a retained revision. Removing a clip does not erase the underlying source audio. Turning sync off or removing the app does not erase iCloud data. Manage retained cloud copies and backups through Apple's storage controls under Apple's privacy practices.
Exports and retention
Exported audio is created locally. You can save or share it using the system controls; a sharing destination has its own privacy practices. Remove projects and files you no longer need through the app or your operating system storage tools. Exports, source audio, and backups can remain separately. The app has no developer account, advertising SDK, or active remote analytics service.
