Game Toolkit

Dice, a turn timer, and a scorecard for game night. Here is how each tool works, and what to check when something looks wrong.

The basics

  • DicePress Roll or shake the device. Tap a die to hold it out of the next roll; tap again (or use Release in the top bar) to let it roll again. The chips under the tray switch between d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and d100 — Settings goes all the way from 2 to 100 sides and up to 30 dice.
  • TimerTap a player's card to start their clock and pause everyone else's; tap again to pause. The stopwatch button in the top bar sets the time per player, and the reset arrow refills every clock.
  • ScoresAdd Round opens one sheet for everyone's points that round. Tap any existing row to edit it, or long-press for edit and delete options. The crown marks the current leader; the Chart toggle draws everyone's totals, or one player's round-by-round scores. Shake — or use the shuffle button — for a random turn order.
  • ThemesThe palette button in the top corner of any tab switches themes. Built-in themes work forever with no network; the search field finds palettes inspired by specific board games.

Common questions

How do I put the scoreboard on my TV?

Mirror your iPhone or iPad to an Apple TV (Control Center › Screen Mirroring), or connect any screen with a cable. While Game Toolkit is open, the TV shows a live scoreboard — totals, last-round points, and the leader's crown — instead of a copy of your phone, and your phone keeps working normally.

Prefer plain mirroring? Turn off Settings › Apple TV & External Screens › TV scoreboard.

I can't shake my Mac. How do I roll or shuffle?

Every shake gesture has a button: Roll on the dice screen, and the shuffle button (or the Scores menu › Random Turn Order) on the scorecard. The same buttons are how you do it on Apple Vision Pro.

My scores aren't syncing between devices.

Sync runs through your private iCloud database, so every device needs to be signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive enabled. The Sync card at the top of Settings tells you the current state on that device. Sync is usually quick but can take a minute after a change; scores are always saved locally first, so nothing is lost while you wait.

Searching for a game's theme finds nothing.

Theme search needs a network connection the first time you use a theme; after that the palette is cached on the device. The catalog is small and growing — if the game you're playing isn't in it yet, tell me which one and I'll happily add a palette inspired by it. Built-in themes always work, network or not.

Are game themes official?

No. Game themes are independent color palettes inspired by the look of the games people play, with descriptive names of their own. Game Toolkit is not affiliated with or endorsed by any board-game publisher.

How do I start a new game / clear scores?

Scores menu › Reset All Scores clears every round and keeps your roster. Settings › Data has the same reset plus Reset Player Names. Deleting a single bad round: long-press the row on the scorecard.

The dice pips are too small (or comically large).

That's the Dot Size slider in Settings › Dice — seven sizes from Tiny to, literally, Comically Large. It only affects six-sided dice; other dice show numerals.

The timer alarm doesn't make a sound.

Check Settings › Turn Timer › Play alarm, the Sound toggle under Feedback, and your ring/silent switch. The alarm length slider controls how long it rings.

How do I delete my data?

Deleting the app removes everything stored on the device. If iCloud sync was on, your data also lives in your own private iCloud database; remove it from Settings › iCloud on your device. Nothing is stored anywhere else — there is no account and nothing is collected.
