Scratch Pad

Somewhere to put a thing before you know where it goes

A private pile of notes, quotes, links, and images captured while browsing. Nothing reads it until you drag an item somewhere or explicitly choose an action.

Scratch Pad containing a Golden Record research question and a clipped NASA page beside the original website — Write a research question, then use Clip page to keep its source. Ask Agent and Newspaper are explicit actions on each clip.

Things to try

about 4 minutes

01Open the Scratch Pad.⌥⌘NThe pad shares the Agent side panel. Its header has a keyboard menu and a control to return to the Agent.
02Write a note and save it.⌘Return
03Use Clip page to keep the current URL, or use the shortcut during ordinary browsing.⇧⌘DInside a research workspace, ⇧⌘D captures the source to that workspace instead.
04Select a quote on a page and drag it into the pad. Then drag in a link and an image.
05Drag an item out of the pad into another app.Items export as ordinary text, URL, and image, so they leave the browser cleanly.
06Right-click an item and read the actions.⌥⌘Return⇧⌘C⌥⌘OAdd the source to Newspaper, copy, open the source, ask the agent. Ask Agent is the only thing that ever shows an item to a model, and it is explicit.

Worth filming

Drag a quote in, drag it out into a notes app. The point is that it is a holding pen, not a database.
